Oh for Whining Out Loud!
Tony Isabella: “Dismiss me as a bitter old crank if you must, but don’t allow that to be the end of your discussion of those issues. I’m no good at being noble, but it doesn’t take much to see that the problems of one writer don’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy industry that demeans its characters and their creators. Someday you’ll understand that.” (from ADD’s 5 Cues for an anti-corporate rant)
Tony–I’m going to take the first part of that advice, and try to forget the rest of this blasphemous invocation! Don’t you realize that Casablanca emerged out of far more despotic and “soul-destroying” conditions than those which obtained at your little superhero company? (Does Warner Brothers still own DC?) Ever heard of the studio system dude? ‘Twas murder. And you ain’t no Michael Curtiz! You ain’t no Grant Morrison neitha! Adversity has been known to strengthen, every once in a while… Bottom line: you wanna take a REAL “anti-corporate stance”? Self-publish! (or be damned…) Just stop beating us over the head with this “no character left behind” nonsense…
